After the enlargement of the European Union, as well as after the enlargement of the Schengen zone, it remains an open question to what extent political integration in the German-Polish border region has taken place. Could expectations be met? Where do actors of political integration struggle with each other, and how can we best analyse the conflicts that arise on both sides along the Oder river? The seminar will introduce into theories of boundary making and discuss the concepts of political integration and participation. The aim of the seminar will be to develop a common research question and to collaborate in break-out groups, doing field work in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice. Participants will become acquainted with conducting expert interviews and documenting their research by applying specialized software (maxQDA). A follow-up seminar is planned for the winter semester.
